PTE Vs IELTS Score Calculation Method

IELTS Method:

The IELTS  test is scored using a 0 to 9 band scale. Each band represents a level of English language proficiency, from band 1 (non-user) to band 9 (expert user). Here’s how to calculate your IELTS score:

  1. Listening and Reading: The listening and reading sections of the IELTS test are each scored out of 40. A conversion table converts your raw score to the IELTS nine-band scale. Each band corresponds to a range of raw scores, and your band score is rounded up or down to the nearest half-band. For example, if your raw score in the reading section is 33, your band score would be 6.5.
  2. Writing and Speaking: The writing and speaking sections are each scored out of 9. In the writing section, you will receive a band score for each task, which is then averaged to give your overall writing band score. In the speaking section, you will be scored on four criteria: fluency and coherence, lexical resource, grammatical range and accuracy, and pronunciation. Each of these criteria is scored out of 9, and the scores are averaged to give your overall speaking band score.
  3. Overall Band Score: Your IELTS band score is the average of four section scores, rounded up or down to the nearest half-band. For example, if your scores are Listening 7.5, Reading 7.0, Writing 6.5, and Speaking 7.0, your overall band score would be 7.0.

Raw Score: In the IELTS context, a raw score refers to the total number of correct answers or points obtained by a test-taker in specific test sections.

For example, in the IELTS Listening test, the raw score is the total number of correct answers the test-taker provides in the 40-question section. The raw score is usually converted into a band score, a standardized score ranging from 0 to 9 for each section of the IELTS test.

PTE Score Method

Computers are used to score the PTE results. There are two types of scoring:

  1. Partial Credit
  2. Correct or Incorrect

Partial Credit: For all correct answers, partial credit is given. The points for all wrong answers will decrease the points earned for the right answers. For incorrect answers, there is no point deducted.

Correct or Incorrect: Whether a response is right or wrong, the candidate receives one point, and a wrong answer will not get you any points.

PTE Score Chart Calculation: Their total score will be decided based on how well the candidate does throughout all sections. The PTE score calculators calculate the total and average scores, and communicative Skills and Enabling Scores are two important factors in the PTE score.

PTE Communicative Skills Score: The four components of reading, writing, speaking, and listening make up the score for this skill. The skill has a score range of 10 to 90.

PTE Enabling Skills Score: these skills include spelling, vocabulary, pronunciation, grammar, and written discourse. Also, the score range of enabling skills is between 10 to 90.

For PTE overall score, All the enabling skill scores are added, and the total score is divided by 6. The average enabling score is added up with the 4 Communicative skills score, and then the average of these 5 is considered the overall score of PTE.
